What do cowboys, hipsters and ASOS models have in common? Denim. Jeans, shorts, jackets… you name it. A staple every man should have in his wardrobe, to be dressed up or down. It’s the go to essential.

Taking a step back in history for a second, Denim was invented by Jacob Davis and Levi Strauss (commonly known for Levis) in 1873. Named after the city of Genoa in Italy, cotton corduroy called Jean or Jeane was manufactured . In 1851, Levis Strauss moved to New York to start his new fashion venture and little did he know, he would build one of the biggest fashion brands in the world.

Denim originally was designed to make robust products such as tents, horse blankets and wagon covers, until one day a customer ordered a pair of sturdy trousers that could resist hard work. Popularity grew and more orders were placed for these robust pants. Here’s a fact for you, according to History Of Jeans, “The name “denim” comes from the name of a sturdy fabric called “Serge de Nîmes”, initially made in Nîmes, France, hence “de Nîmes” – “denim”.” Now there’s something you didn’t know.

Denim also seems to be a material that I can’t get enough of. I literally live in black skinnies, my denim jacket gets dragged out the back of my wardrobe in the Autumn season without fail and I can’t resist purchasing new jeans every few months. They are so easily wearable and the fact they can be formal or informal makes styling an outfit super easy. I always go back to my standard ‘black jean, white t shirt, blue denim jacket’ outfit. It’s an absolute classic that works every time. Whether you’re ready for a night out or having a casual day with friends, it’s the perfect combination. Throw on some Wayfarers if the sun is out and off you go.

Are you obsessed with Denim?
